Keeping Your New Year’s Resolution To Volunteer Just Got Easier

All hale the internet! This genius tool has been making life easier for us by the day. But if you’re looking to make a connection more meaningful than swiping right for a mid-week meet-up, then consider Vollie.

Vollie is a new platform linking people who want to help with not-for-profit organisations who need help. You can think of Vollie as being like Airtasker for the greater good.

There are many ways you can give your time, money and skills to charities – including indulging in tasty fresh crepes for one – and there’s no doubt that it’ll make you feel pretty good about yourself. Hell, volunteering might even change you completely.

The best thing about using Vollie is that the tasks advertised are often things that you might already have the skills for. Right now, there’s charities needing a food photographer, a Google AdWords guru and a storyteller.

Recently a true match (💕) was made between a four-year-old girl who suffers a life-threatening illness and a good samaritan with some mad sewing skills and a vivid imagination. The girl had made a heartfelt plea through Make-A-Wish for nothing more than two “pirate princess costumes”, one for her and one for her sister. Through Vollie the two were connected and it was a wish that was happily granted.

Starlight, the Butterfly Foundation, Suicide Prevention Australia, Foodbank, the Australian Rhino Project (yes, rhinos!), Vegan Australia and many more not-for-profits are already signed up and asking for help. In under two months of operation Vollie has seen over 30 projects completed that totals 688 hours of work (valued at about $35,631 for the charities).

The site has seen an undeniable spike in volunteers during December and January when people are self-reflecting and setting goals for the year ahead. Which makes perfect sense to us. Doing good deeds for others is often one of the most common New Year’s Resolutions.

So, if one of your Resolutions is to volunteer, here’s the perfect way to start. You don’t even have to leave your house.
