Weird Charge On Your Statement? Don’t Worry, We Got You
For all the excitement that accompanies planning for a new trip, there’s always a little bit of nervousness. While you’ve heard countless tales of food, adventure and breathtaking views, there’s always a horror story of something going wrong. A friend of a friend misplaced their passport on the Eurorail, or your cousin once got bedbugs from a hostel in Vietnam. Or, gasp, somebody had their wallet stolen.
The thing Australian millennials desperately want to ensure, especially when we’re travelling, is that our money is secure. In fact, according to the Westpac Travel Finance Report, 51% of us are worried that if we’ve misplaced our credit card, it will be used to make a fraudulent transaction.
To add to this stress, travelling overseas makes it seem that the conveniences of our home are far, far away. We can’t just stroll in to our local bank or drop a quick line to customer service if we are in trouble – it feels like there’s an extra layer of inconvenience piled on top of everything. Not to mention that we want to make the most of our holiday, not feel anxious about what is happening with our money.
So, what do we do?
Thankfully, the Westpac Mobile Live app now has a Card On Hold feature that allows you to freeze your money from your phone. If you don’t have your card in sight and you’re fearing the worst, you can just put your card on hold until you’re absolutely certain it’s no longer in harm’s way.
This is really handy, especially for the 3 in 10 Australians who thought they had their card stolen last year, cancelled it and found it a day later. This resulted in millions of cards being cancelled when they didn’t need to be. Now, you can take an extra step of precaution without being laissez fair about your finances. If your card happens to turn up the next morning in the back pocket of your jeans, you can just use the app to take it off hold.
Fortunately, we don’t have to rely on enduring the cringe of a bumbag to keep our money secure while we’re travelling. We can use Westpac Mobile Live app, wear a nice outfit and enjoy our holiday to its fullest potential. Phew!
